Friday 12th August: On the road to Whistler

Farewell Vancouver Island.
We had a very easy and quick 140 km drive down from Campbell River to Departure Bay. The 10.40 ferry we had hope to catch was full but they say they should be able to squeeze us onto the 12.15......and they did... we were just about the last vehicle to board apart from a BC Ferries luggage truck !

Another BC Ferries boat going into Departure Bay

The City of Vancouver in the distance

Our destination at Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.
It's a beautiful day and we spent the hour and half journey up on the sun deck. It is, according to Charmin' Garmin, about an hour and half drive up Highway 99 to Whistler our next stop

Ahhh, couldn't resist the signpost that said Brandywine Falls so we stopped off ......falls just a quick 10 min easy walk from the car park.......

We had to cross the railway track on route to the falls and I thought....ummm I wonder if a train is due and blow me as soon as we had got to the falls we heard the whistle !! arghhh I missed it !
Enough of this and on up to Whistler. We arrived 4pm in time to unpack and have a stroll around the village and of course a beer. As expected very touristy and "twee"...purpose built for the Olympics in an Alpine style, parts looking like they need a refurb but I guess for most of the year it is covered by snow
Our room again is very good with seperate full kitchen and lounge and a nice surprise as with Heron's Landing in Campbell River it has a dishwasher so my marigolds are having a rest again on this stop !!
Sound proofing of hotel could do with an upgrade especially as we have crying child in next room and parents with loud voices who either sit on their balcony at 4.30 in the morning on the phone or decide to let said child cry in the hallway outside of our door. Let's hope they are just here for the weekend !!!
