Saturday 20th August: Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey !

It's another fabulous sunny day, the temperature rises into the high 20's. Back into the Park and today first stop is Bailey's Chute. This of course sets us off in song !!! The "chute" is a 5 min walk from the carpark and is an incredible extreme whitewater rapid caused by lava flow narrowing the river bed. It actually is quite hard to photograph because of the angle of the viewpoints but I took loads anyway.

A good viewpoint to stand and watch.....after a while you have to leave as with most of the falls because of the noise !!
The salmon that come up the river to spawn are unable to negotiate Bailey's Chute, it is one obstacle too many and they drift back down the river a short way to Horseshoe Bend.

We hike along the 4km riverside trail from Bailey's Chute and stop at Marcus Falls. Another amazing falls, the water is so very clear

On along the trail to Mayath Falls. This is the "tranquill" river above the falls

So clear and lovely reflection. There were quite a lot of fish jumping here

Mayarth Falls and someone on the rocks !!

Mayarth Falls

Back down stream from Mayarth Falls a very peaceful beach

Marcus Falls on return hike with sun glinting on the water

This little chap was sitting in the middle of the trail !!

Shadow Lake, a pretty lake on route back to hotel. We had driven farther on upto Clearwater Lake, this was a gravel road of some 25km !! A nice spot for our packed lunch and then back down 65.5 km to Clearwater.
We are very naughty people and decided to go to the hotel Grill for a burger. Well it was the very best burger I have ever had and at least I just had salad with mine, not pan fries, there were two very empty plates at the end !!
Another very good day........
