Saturday 13th August: Whistler Day 1

The day started very early due to screaming child in next room. The father then decided it would be a good idea to let said child play in the corridor and outside of our room !!!
I then tried to hook up to the wifi in the lobby of the hotel and no go, the rather unhelpful receptionist said for me to try changing seats, which I dutifully did, in fact I tried all of the seats in the lobby !!!! She then connected me to their IT helpline and hey a very helpful chap set a new IPP address and all was well with the world. This had taken the best part of an hour and now my battery is low and the cable is up in the room so enough of that for now we have places to see..........
This is one of the buildings of Whistler, a very Alpine feel to the architecture.
We planned a relaxed sort of day today and had a good walk around the Village and the Upper Village and along one of the trails to Lost Lake but while checking out the various places to hire bikes for perhaps tomorrow we are told that there is a very good chance of rain tomorrow and as it was so nice today we hastily changed plans.........

We hired what they class as cruiser bikes as they have the larger old fashioned saddle, that means bigger. From experience we know the modern saddles are very painful, very quickly !!! There are miles of trails around 3 lakes, mostly they are all paved but they are not flat but undulating.
Early on the ride at an intersection of trails with a minor road I spotted (my boy was map reading to get us on the right trail) up ahead a black bear cross the road and go into the wooded property of a house. At first I couldn't believe my eyes and by the time I woke up I didn't have time to raise my camera !!!

This is Alta lake, we did stop here briefly for a quick sandwich. It was great to see families out enjoying the many parks that surround the lake. The two bigger lakes, this being one of them, folks can sail or canoe as well as swim although it wasn't really hot enough for me to feel encouraged to do that !
My bike is actually purple not the blue it looks in this picture

View across Alta Lake with snow capped mountains in the background

This is Green Lake, it is in fact really green compared to the other lakes

Very nice houses on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Course......
Part of the trail followed the railway track, in fact we criss-crossed over it several times but sadly no train sightings

We earned a beer after peddling for almost 3 hours and 14-15 kms over hilly terrain but brilliant exercise and a great way to spend the afternoon.........
