Thursday 11th August: Strathcona Provincial Park

We head off today to Strathcona Provincial Park about 50km up into the mountains from Campbell River. First stop is Lupin Falls. Not sure why it is called that as we couldn't see any lupins !! It was a short walk through the forest to the falls which although not spectacular were very high

Part of the trail to Lupin Falls

A stop at one of the many view points on Campbell Lake

Next stop is Myra Falls and these are fan-tab-u-lous some of the best we have seen on our travels. As well as being very dramatic, there were about 5 drops, but also very pretty and an easy access with good flat rocks area to sit and relax and enjoy the falls. Also it was only a 10 mins steepish walk up to the falls

The water was so clear and of course freezing and the most amazing blue and green colour as it fell over the various rocks

View from flat rock area down to lake. Without risking life and limb there was no way down to the lake side to observe the falls from below but  we did find a view point on the other side of the lake to take a photo which is posted below

View of Myra Falls from the other side of Campbell Lake, even from this distance you could hear the amazing sound of the water.....

Lady Falls, our last walk and falls of the day. Very powerful and lots of spray........
Another great day, Myra Falls was fantastic, we drove about 200 km and although single lane winding road it was an easy drive and very picturesque.........
Tomorrow up and on the road and back down 150 km to Naniamo and the ferry over to Horseshoe Bay and our next stop at Whistler

  1. Here I am, back from Irish Dublin! Good to see you are still as active as ever, loved the photos of the Orcas, its the one disappointment of my trip to Canada that I didnt get to see them. Carry on enjoying, maybe one day I'll get round to this retirement lark.
