Back on the road again this time to Jasper, Alberta and Happy Anniversary to us.
We had a bit of a false start as leaving the hotel carpark a warning light on the car says low tyre or in Canadian speak tire pressure. Off round to the gas station and yup the fronts were down. Good to know as we have a long drive ahead and not too many gas stations on the way !! It was raining when we left Clearwater but does clear up about mid way through our journey although does stay cloudy. It turns out to be a very easy 330km drive over to Jasper. All a very good single carriage way and 100kph road apart from the few small towns along the way when it's 50/60kph.
Mount Robson from the visitor information centre
Scenic spot for our lunchtime sandwich
Highway 5 follows not only the North Thompson River but also the railroad and at last we see some trains !!! When we arrive in Jasper The Rocky Mountaineer is in the station while the passengers explore. We did do the hare and the tortoise with it on drive here.....
Also a time change, we move on an hour so now 7 hours behind UK.
We are safely in Jasper and checked into the Lobsick Lodge. Odd name, it is derived from the days of the early explorers and traders. A lobstick was a tree which the lower branches were removed to identify trails and/or to signify a point of rendezvous
Ahh, now you are in my country! I loved Jasper, there was just something really remote yet civilised about it. Went on a 3 hour horse ride there - you should try it!
