Sunday 7th August:Ucluelet and walking

Downtown Ucluelet......
basically it's a fishing port but because of nearby beaches does have many RV and campgrounds much as Tofino. There are an incredible amount of RVs of all shapes and sizes on the Island (but plenty of space for everyone) mostly rentals, big business here

Ucluelet is 43 km from Tofino more or less at the other end of a big bay. After a quick walk around town, didn't take too long, we set off on our first walk of the day. This one is the Wild Pacific Trail at the He-Tin-Kis Park, all gravel marked trail, most on the flat for a change and goes right around the headland. Beautiful coastal views

Main headland and once known as Wrecks Bay as many ships wrecked here including in 1905 a large British steel 4 mast barque

The Amphitrite Lighthouse

Look closely at the top of the rock, we will play with the Adobe and see if we can get this chap closer, anyway for now Michael could see through his bins that this is a bald eagle

Terrace Beach
After our 3 km loop walk time for packed lunch on a very pretty and deserted beach

Next stop is back a short way along the coast to Tofino and
Wickininnish Beach

Incredible amount of driftwood, some had been made into shelters, one had "keep out" on it so perhaps they watched Local Hero !!

Off again on the trail, this one to Florencia Bay, named after another shipwreck. This is the Nuv-chah-nulth Trail and was not a loop, 5 km in total. It meanders along the coast and then inland through the rainforest/bog trail

Part of trail good but nearer Florencia Bay it is not as well maintained maybe as not so popular as not a loop trail. Or maybe it's as there are cougar, bears, deer and wolves in the area !

Incinerator Rock at the end of Long Beach. No idea why it's called that, nothing on the info boards and a plaque on the rock is all about whales !!
We decided our feet are a bit weary and we should have worked off some of the fish and chips from yesterday so call it a day and head for home.......
Unlike other days we have been here it remained misty/cloudy all day rather than clearing by lunchtime and was quite chilly but at least not raining !
Another good day
